HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zariouh
Elements of the Spanish Civil Guard were able to arrest a Spanish passenger, who hails from the city of Malaga, at Melilla airport after finding 6,800 doses of marijuana in his possession, which were intended for distribution.
Security sources said that the routine inspection of passengers raised the suspicions of the agents about the suspect, which prompted them to subject him to a thorough search, where the drugs were discovered to be securely hidden inside his luggage. The sources added that the amount of drugs seized indicates a clear commercial intent by the detainee, and not for personal consumption, which necessitated his detention and the opening of an investigation into the case, under the supervision of the Public Prosecution. Investigators opened an extensive investigation to uncover the details of the case, including investigating whether the detainee is linked to a drug smuggling network operating between Spanish cities. This operation comes within the framework of the continuous efforts made by the Spanish authorities to reduce drug smuggling and enhance security measures at border crossings and airports.
