The American magazine "Time" reported that the death toll from the unrest that Iran witnessed over several days may exceed 30,000 people.
The magazine explained, in its issue published on Sunday, quoting high-level health officials, that approximately 30,000 people may have died at the hands of Iranian security forces during the days of January 8 and 9 only, which were the days that witnessed some of the broadest protests in the recent wave. The same sources added that the number of bodies during these two days exceeded the state's capacity to deal with them, as the authorities ran out of body bags, forcing them to use trucks instead of ambulances. The protests began in late December against the backdrop of a suffocating economic crisis, before the merchants led the first movements, and later expanded into widespread popular protests in major cities on January 8 and 9, before the authorities intervened to suppress them, according to multiple reports. In contrast, the Iranian leadership in Tehran considered that these protests were behind external parties, holding Israel and the United States responsible for the fall of thousands of victims.
