From African Refugee Day to World Refugee Day

When is World Refugee Day? When was World Refugee Day established?

World Refugee Day falls every year on June 20 and is dedicated to refugees around the world.

World Refugee Day was first observed globally on June 20, 2001, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.

It was initially known as African Refugee Day, before the United Nations General Assembly officially declared it an international day in December 2000.
