The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya announced in a strongly worded statement its categorical rejection of any international meetings or consultations addressing the Libyan issue without the official participation of the Libyan state, represented by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering that this constitutes a clear infringement on national sovereignty and an unacceptable transgression of the recognized legitimate institutions.
This position comes after the announcement of a tripartite consultative meeting in the Republic of Tunisia, which includes the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria, and with the presence of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, without an official invitation to Libya, despite the fact that it is the party directly concerned with everything discussed about its political and security future. The Libyan Foreign Ministry affirmed, in an official statement, that Libya is keen on strong fraternal and historical relations with neighboring countries, but it stressed that any discussions or arrangements concerning the Libyan situation must be carried out with the direct participation of the Libyan state, as it is the only entity authorized to represent the country's sovereignty and protect its independent national decision. The ministry also reiterated its welcome to all sincere regional and international efforts supporting the political process, provided that the principle of partnership is respected and the competent Libyan institutions are not bypassed, stressing that any path that does not involve Libya officially and transparently will not contribute to achieving the desired security and stability. The Libyan Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by emphasizing that respect for national sovereignty remains the basis of any sustainable solution, calling on neighboring countries and the international community to adopt an approach based on balanced cooperation, in a way that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace, stability, and development.
