Precise field interventions saved the lives of five people in the Azilal region after heavy rain and snowfall prevented ambulances from reaching isolated areas in the Zawyat Ahansal commune, in one of the harshest cold waves the region has witnessed this season.
This intervention came after the local vigilance and follow-up committee received notifications indicating the presence of critical health cases in both the Asmouq area and the Slout Ait Abdi douar, where the snow thickness reached record levels that impeded traffic and isolated the population from basic services, especially medical aid. Facing the difficulty of land access, the regional vigilance and follow-up committee hastened to activate the emergency intervention plan, by using a medical helicopter belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie, which arrived in the area on Monday, January 26, 2026, and transported the patients in delicate conditions towards the military surgical field hospital located in the Ait M'hamed commune center. The cases that were transported were taken care of under the supervision of specialized medical and nursing staff, who provided the necessary treatments, within the framework of a comprehensive mobilization aimed at protecting lives and ensuring the right to treatment, despite the harsh climatic constraints. This successful intervention reflects the effectiveness of coordination between the various actors, and confirms the importance of field readiness and the use of air means in rescuing the population in mountainous areas, especially during periods of severe weather fluctuations.
