HIBAPRESS – Yassin Ben Ramdan
The national road linking the cities of Nador and Jerrada, via the municipalities of Afsou and Saka, witnessed a major disruption in traffic, following a strong sandstorm that hit the region, causing near-total lack of visibility, which led to a temporary halt in traffic on a number of road sections.
According to local data, the force of the winds accompanied by dense dust and sand led to great difficulty in movement, and resulted in the registration of separate traffic accidents, leaving material losses to a number of vehicles, as a result of poor visibility and unsuitable driving conditions, and the registration of injuries in some cases. With the improvement and stability of weather conditions, elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection intervened to remove the damaged vehicles from the road surface, and secure the road section, in addition to providing the necessary assistance to drivers and citizens who remained stranded for hours due to the road blockage. This situation has left a state of alert among the various intervening authorities, while calls have been directed to road users to take caution and avoid traveling through this road axis during periods of climate fluctuations, while emphasizing the importance of following official weather bulletins and warnings issued by the competent authorities.
