The Regional Committee for Vigilance and Follow-up held an expanded meeting on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the headquarters of the Al Hoceima province, which was devoted to studying proactive and practical measures to reduce the effects of the cold wave and rainfall and snowfall witnessed by the region.

This meeting was chaired by the governor of the region, Fouad Haji, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the province, the head of the Internal Affairs Department in the acting capacity, along with the heads of the security services, the authorities, and representatives of the relevant external interests. In his opening speech, the governor of the region affirmed that this meeting falls within the framework of activating the national plan to mitigate the effects of natural phenomena, especially rainfall, cold waves, snowfall, and floods, stressing the need to be extremely vigilant and fully mobilized to protect the lives of citizens and ensure their safety, especially in mountainous and rural areas. The regional official called for the harnessing of all available human resources and logistical means, while continuing to mobilize the mechanisms and equipment of the equipment departments, local authorities, and the private sector, and placing them near the axes and threatened areas. He also stressed the need to enhance the readiness of ambulances, within the framework of tight coordination with the civil defense services and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. In the same context, the governor of the region urged local authorities and other stakeholders to follow up on the conditions of pregnant women and direct them to health centers and maternity homes, to shelter the homeless in shelters, to facilitate access to treatment for patients with chronic diseases, as well as to monitor the supply of markets and ensure the availability of basic food items, especially in mountainous areas. For their part, the heads of the external interests presented presentations on the interventions of their interests in the affected areas, which were characterized, according to the data presented, by speed, continuity, and coordination. These interventions have, to date, resulted in the opening of 22 unclassified roads and two classified roads that were damaged by the recent rainfall, in addition to the mobilization of technical teams to ensure the continuity of electricity, water, and communications services, and the strengthening of medical staff and the provision of medicines in health centers near the affected areas, as well as sheltering the homeless in social care institutions. Also, since the early hours of the same day, all specialized mechanisms for removing snow have been mobilized to reopen the road axes that witnessed interruptions due to snowfall. At the end of the meeting, the governor of the Al Hoceima region stressed the need to hold regular meetings of the local vigilance committees, in order to stand on the ground on the constraints raised and find immediate solutions to them, while preparing detailed reports to be submitted to the regional committee to take appropriate measures in a timely manner.
