Mohamed Saimo, the head of the Ksar El Kebir commune, announced an official decision for the complete closure of the city in the coming hours, with the cutting of electricity, water, and internet services, due to the risk of unprecedented floods that threaten the safety of the residents.
Saimo confirmed in a statement to the media that the authorities have decided to move to the complete evacuation phase, stressing that the water situation has reached dangerous levels, after water began to rise from underground, in addition to the flooding of the Loukkos River from the sea into the city, making staying impossible. He explained that the vigilance committee informed the authorities that only a few hours remained before the complete closure, indicating that all hopes for improving the situation have dissipated, and that the coming hours will be decisive for those who are still inside Ksar El Kebir. The head of the commune pointed to the mobilization of various public services to secure the movement of residents, with a focus on awareness and sensitization to avoid registering loss of life, expressing his hope that this phase will pass without fatalities. Saimo directed a direct appeal to the residents to evacuate immediately and cooperate with the authorities, and also called on journalists to leave the city for their safety, warning at the same time against any attempt to exploit the situation to commit thefts. He confirmed that all shops and vital facilities have closed their doors, in preparation for the critical phase, praising the intervention of the central authorities and the solidarity of the northern cities that have allocated shelters and received the displaced, while ensuring their free transportation via buses and trains.
