HIBAPRESS
The Director General of Water Engineering at the Ministry of Equipment and Water, Salah Eddine Dahbi, announced the commencement of preventive and preemptive discharge operations for the Wadi al-Makhazin dam, where the cumulative discharged volume reached 372.9 million cubic meters.
Given that climate forecasts indicate an increase in inflows in the coming days, Salah Eddine Dahbi mentioned that the technical monitoring system is being enhanced and measurements are being intensified, with two measurement periods adopted each day instead of a monthly measurement period, with the use of specialized teams to carry out some precise monitoring tasks. He pointed out that it is likely, according to these climate forecasts, that the next seven days, starting from today, will witness important developments, noting that the ministry's services conducted a precise hydrological simulation, using the hour as a time unit instead of the day, during which the water inflows expected to reach about 620 million cubic meters were determined, and the recording of a maximum dam load of 3163 cubic meters per second, and a discharge flow reaching a maximum of 1377 cubic meters per second, which is equivalent to four times what is currently being discharged, in addition to the cartographic identification of areas that will experience floods with the determination of the water level in them, taking into account the dam's releases and the inflows of unregulated valleys downstream, which contributes greatly to determining the measures to be taken to ensure the safety of citizens and preserve their property. He emphasized that under these exceptional hydrometeorological conditions, the ministry's services continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of water facilities and the continuation of their functions, which are represented in organizing water inflows and protecting against floods, in full coordination with the local authorities and all stakeholders, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
