The French Financial Prosecutor's Office announced on Friday that a preliminary investigation has been opened with Jack Lang, the president of the Arab Institute in Paris and former minister, and his daughter Caroline, against the backdrop of their relationship with the American convicted of sex crimes Jeffrey Epstein, according to the "Agence France-Presse".
The office said that Lang and his daughter will be investigated on charges of "money laundering" related to tax evasion proceeds; because of suspicious financial relationships with Epstein. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, during his visit to Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, said: "He (Lang) has been summoned by the ministry and will be received on Sunday." Barrot added later from Beirut: "The first elements that have begun to appear from these files are new and very serious" and will require in-depth examination.
