As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approach, the French authorities are acting accordingly to make Paris more beautiful than ever, with no black spots.
The authorities have therefore initiated various operations to better understand the situation, but their undertaking has sometimes encountered public opposition and even from associations interested in this fact.
This is how the latest evacuations of homeless camps in Paris in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have sparked a general outcry among several Associations and even among French public opinion, at a time when the prefecture concerned by this gesture deemed racist is emphasizing “support” work, instead of “social cleansing” as expressed by the Associations.
As a result, the prefecture concerned by this problem has expelled people in exile, drug users and the homeless. Nearly 120 people evicted!
In response, the collective, made up of more than 80 associations working with disadvantaged groups, denounced a “social cleansing” before the start of the Games.
The spokesperson for the collective revealed: “There are people who have been living under this bridge for months, even years. It is a camp site for people who do not have access to accommodation and who have been there for three years.”
To counter the risk of danger, the prefecture concerned assures that the Olympic Games are an opportunity to rehouse people in situations of great precariousness: “For the Olympic Games, there are clearly specific measures. We have done a lot of work to support the very marginalized who found themselves on Olympic Games sites, with the creation of more than 200 places for them.”
The observation is that there are at least 3,500 homeless people in Paris alone. Rehousing 140 people is a drop in the ocean. It’s really a bandage on a hemorrhage,” adds the spokesperson for the Collective.
