The Spanish club Barcelona announced today, Monday, the acceptance of Joan Laporta's resignation from the position of chairman of the board of directors, in preparation for the upcoming presidential elections.
The presidential elections for the Barcelona club are scheduled to take place on March 15th, and the elected president will take over the affairs of the Catalan team in July.
Barcelona announced that it had received the resignation request from Laporta and 9 members of his administration, during the periodic meeting of the board of directors, during which the official announcement of the call for the upcoming elections was made.
The Catalan club's statement added: "Once they officially resigned, the new board of directors continued the meeting according to the set agenda," adding that the preparation for the elections scheduled for next month comes at the top of the list of files that were addressed.
Joan Laporta (63 years old) decided to resign from his position as president of Barcelona club, according to the club's regulations, to become eligible to be re-elected again.
