HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The case of the former head of the Bar Association and former Minister of Human Rights, Mohamed Ziane, is witnessing important developments, after the Court of Cassation recently overturned the previous appeal judgment and referred the case back to the Court of Appeal for reconsideration.
Today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, his trial is scheduled to be held in Rabat, a step that comes within the judicial procedures to re-evaluate the charges against him, which relate to financial management related to supporting a political party. Despite Ziane's presence before the court, there is no official information yet to confirm the possibility of his release in this session. The final decision will be linked to the outcomes of the court after the pleadings and listening to both parties, and it may range between confirming the sentence, mitigating it, or even acquitting him, according to the judges' assessment. Previously, Ziane was sentenced to three years in prison, after it was reduced from five years, and he was already serving the sentence before it was overturned and the file was referred again. This judicial step has returned the case to square one, making release today a possible but uncertain matter until the official decision is issued. The Moroccan public is following this trial with interest, given the previous cases that occupied the press and the judiciary, and because it concerns a prominent figure in the legal and political circles.
