HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
Casablanca markets have witnessed remarkable activity in recent days with a noticeable increase in the supply of local dates, following the authorities' decision to impose customs restrictions on imports of some types of foreign dates.
This measure comes in the context of supporting national products and giving them room to compete within the Moroccan market, especially with the approach of the month of Ramadan, which sees a large increase in demand for dates, considered an essential item on the iftar table. Professionals in the sector confirmed that the decision contributed to strengthening the presence of Moroccan dates within major points of sale and popular markets, after facing strong competition from imported products. They also pointed out that the national product is characterized by the diversity of its varieties and its high quality, in addition to its compliance with health safety standards, which enhances the confidence of the Moroccan consumer looking for quality and reasonable price at the same time. Moroccan dates, especially those coming from oasis areas such as Draa-Tafilalt, Figuig, and Rachidia, are known for their good reputation in terms of taste and nutritional value. They are also distinguished by their competitive prices compared to some imported types, making them a preferred choice for an increasing number of Casablanca families before the arrival of Ramadan, in anticipation that this trend will reflect positively on farmers and local producers during the current season.
