The Government Council, meeting on Thursday and chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, decided to withdraw draft decree-law No. 2.26.135 related to the establishment of a special committee to manage the press and publishing sector.
The aforementioned draft decree had sparked widespread controversy following the circulation of its details, including the appointment of members from outside the journalistic body to the committee, headed by a judge, with the assignment of powers that include organizational and disciplinary aspects, including those related to the professional press card. The project raised a debate in professional and legal circles regarding its nature and the limits of its jurisdiction, especially with regard to assigning reporting tasks to a committee that does not arise from a direct professional election.
