British police conducted a search of the home of the former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, as part of investigations into his misconduct while holding public office, after his arrest and detention on Friday for nearly 11 hours in connection with his friendship with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite being stripped of his title last year, Andrew still holds the eighth position in the line of succession to the throne, and the British government confirmed that it will consider the possibility of removing him from the line of succession through parliamentary legislation after the investigations are completed. British Chancellor, James Murray, said in media statements: "The government is studying any further steps that may be required, and we are not ruling anything out, but it is premature to take any action before the police investigations are completed." These steps come amid close monitoring by the British government of the affairs of the royal family, amid speculation about the extent to which the investigations will affect Andrew's future in the line of succession.
