HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
In a move reflecting the authorities' seriousness in combating corruption and strengthening trust in public facilities, a precise security operation in the city of Ouarzazate resulted in the arrest of two doctors working at the Sidi Hsain Regional Hospital in Ouarzazate, on suspicion of involvement in issuing medical certificates in exchange for money.
The details of the case go back to a complaint filed by the father of two students who were involved in a traffic accident during mid-February. According to the available data, the person concerned requested two medical certificates after completing treatment, in order to submit them to the educational administration, before being surprised by a demand to pay an amount of 1,000 dirhams in exchange for receiving the two documents. Before this behavior, the complainant chose to follow the legal path, where he reported via the green number designated for combating bribery, which enabled the opening of an investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution at the Court of First Instance in Ouarzazate. After careful coordination, a precise security operation was prepared, which included documenting the financial amount, before the suspected doctor was caught red-handed receiving the amount inside his office. The operation also resulted in the arrest of a second doctor, of Jordanian nationality, who is suspected of playing the role of intermediary in facilitating this process, pending the completion of the investigation procedures and presenting him to the judiciary. The Moroccan doctor has been placed under custody, with February 26 set as the date for the start of the first trial sessions, within the framework of respecting legal guarantees and the procedures in force.
