Road accidents in the cities of the Kingdom during the week of July 15-21 left 16 dead and 2,783 injured, including 94 seriously, in the 1,991 road accidents recorded in urban areas.
A report from the General Directorate of National Security attributes the main reasons that led to the occurrence of these accidents, in their order, to the inattention of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, excessive speed, inattention of pedestrians, failure to respect a safety perimeter distance, lack of control and failure to respect the stop imposed by the “Stop” sign, and the change of direction is not authorized.
Other reasons, according to the management, include changing direction without signal, driving on the left side of the road, driving in the wrong direction, failing to stop at a red light, driving while intoxicated and failing to overtake.
Regarding the surveillance and control operations in Traffic and in Golan Square, the same source added, the security services were able to record 46,467 violations, complete 8.85 reports which were sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and obtain 38,382 conciliation fines.
The amount obtained amounted to 8 million and 336 thousand 775 dirhams, while the number of vehicles placed in the municipal pound reached five thousand 163 vehicles, the number of documents withdrawn was 8 thousand 85 documents, and the number of vehicles placed in the municipal pound reached 5 thousand 163 vehicles. 345 vehicles were subject to arrest.
