Informed sources have reported that the Criminal Court of First Instance in charge of financial crimes at the Rabat Court of Appeal issued, on the evening of Monday, February 23, its verdict in a case involving a former deputy prosecutor general in the city of Fez, following a corruption case.
According to the same data, the court sentenced the person in question to two years in prison, with one year to be served, after being charged with "bribery by requesting a gift to perform an act of his function, abuse of power, and fraud," as stated in the indictment. The case, according to the same sources, dates back to a complaint filed by a member of parliament, in which he accused the former judicial official of extorting him in exchange for intervening in a specific case. The circulated data indicates that a meeting between the two parties was documented in a café, in addition to the circulation of a video recording showing the entry of a sum of money into a car driven by the accused, which was considered among the evidence upon which the investigations were based. The case, which was investigated by the investigating judge specializing in financial crimes, involved questioning the accused and confronting him with what was attributed to him, before the judicial authority decided to convict him with the aforementioned sentence, pending the outcome of the remaining levels of litigation in the event of an appeal against the decision.
