The National Ports Agency announced the complete closure of the port of Laayoune starting at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026, due to unfavorable weather conditions in the region.
A notice issued by the port authorities explained that the decision came as a result of strong winds accompanied by gusts reaching level eight on the Beaufort scale, which poses a danger to the safety of maritime navigation and the movement of ships within the port. The port administration confirmed that the closure decision will continue until the weather conditions improve and the appropriate conditions for resuming port activities safely return, calling on all professionals, sailors, and port users to adhere to the issued instructions to preserve public safety. This measure comes within the framework of the precautionary measures adopted by the port authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property in light of weather fluctuations.
