One of the key principles at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to ensure that “no one is left behind”. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) concern all nations, people of all ages and societies. Given the universal nature of this Program, each of its objectives and targets directly or indirectly affects issues related to young people. However, young people are specifically mentioned in four areas: youth employment, young girls, education and sport for peace, for which they are recognized as agents of change, who aspire to achieve their own potential, while ensuring a world adapted to future generations.

Young people carry the torch of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, not only as beneficiaries of the actions and policies that fall under the Program, but also as partners and actors in its implementation. Young people have been involved in the development of the Sustainable Development Agenda from the beginning, and today they remain deeply engaged in the processes that ensure its implementation, monitoring and review process.

The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was the culmination of an immense work process lasting three years, requiring close cooperation between Member States and civil society, particularly international organizations. representing youth, in order to be able to define specific objectives and targets.

The well-being of young people, their participation and their autonomy are key factors for sustainable development and world peace. The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development therefore requires the establishment of strong and inclusive partnerships between young people and all stakeholders, in order to address the development difficulties they face (such as such as unemployment, political exclusion, marginalization, problematic access to education and health, etc.) and ensure that their positive role in these areas is taken into account.

Young people are therefore involved at different levels, notably within the framework of awareness-raising activities or during initiatives aimed at promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its objectives. They have also been present in the collection and use of data, in local and national initiatives in favor of the Program, in monitoring and accountability efforts of civil society and in the writing of progress reports.
