HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
A large segment of Moroccans are increasingly concerned about a new wave of rising prices as a result of the fallout from the ongoing war in the Middle East, especially in light of the close link between international markets for energy and raw materials and the national market.
Observers believe that any disruption in supply chains or a rise in oil and gas prices will directly affect the cost of transportation and production, which may lead to increases in a number of basic consumer goods. Economic experts confirm that the Moroccan economy, despite the diversity of its trading partners, remains affected by global geopolitical fluctuations, especially when it comes to fuel and grain prices. The rise in shipping and insurance costs due to tensions in some sea lanes may exacerbate inflationary pressures, which raises concerns for low-income families who have suffered from successive waves of high prices in recent years. In this context, actors demanded the need to tighten market controls and address any unjustified increases, with the activation of mechanisms to protect purchasing power. They also called for accelerating measures to support some vital sectors and strengthen the strategic stock of essential materials, to avoid any potential effects that may increase the burden on citizens in the event of continued escalation in the Middle East.
