American President Donald Trump sparked political controversy after a notable statement he made to the British Prime Minister, in which he confirmed that the United States no longer needs the two aircraft carriers that Britain offered to send to the Middle East, adding: “We don't need them anymore, but we won't forget.”
This statement came amid the ongoing military escalation in the region, especially after the increasing tensions between the United States and Iran, where Washington has strengthened its military presence by deploying aircraft carriers and additional naval forces to ensure military superiority and deter any potential threats. Observers believe that Trump's statement carries a clear political message to European allies, implying that Washington expects faster and clearer support in international crises, especially from Britain, which is traditionally described as the closest ally of the United States. This position also reflects Trump's approach known for pressuring allies to take on greater responsibilities in international security issues, at a time when Washington is seeking to affirm its ability to manage major conflicts without fully relying on external support. Between military and political messages, these statements reveal a hidden tension within the Western alliance, at a time when the Middle East remains a sensitive arena for international balances and geopolitical conflicts.
