Iranian television announced on Monday that Mojtaba Khamenei was seriously injured during the ongoing conflict in the country, without providing further details on the nature or location of the injury.
The Israeli-American war on Iran continues into its tenth day, with exchanges of attacks. In a surprise move, Tehran announced the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's supreme leader, succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated in a joint attack carried out by the United States and Israel, which also targeted a number of senior Iranian leaders. Last night, the Iranian regime's leadership council officially announced the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed its allegiance to the new leader, indicating that this step represents the beginning of a new phase for the country. The Secretary-General of the Iranian National Security Council, Ali Larijani, confirmed that Mojtaba has the ability to lead Iran under the current sensitive circumstances. His appointment comes days after former US President Donald Trump objected to the possibility of him taking the leadership, considering the outcome "unacceptable" according to statements to the Axios website, while the Israeli Minister of Energy, the Speaker of the Knesset, and a spokesman for the Israeli army vowed to assassinate the new leader, increasing tensions in the region.
