HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The local authorities in the city of Kenitra began on Monday morning a large-scale demolition operation of old buildings and a group of houses and informal shops in the Souk Sebt area, as part of the preparation of the property that will host the new bus station project for transporting passengers.
The operation included the demolition of the old building that was previously allocated to a carpet institute, in addition to a number of shops and residences that existed in the same vicinity. The operation was carried out using bulldozers and heavy machinery, amid organizational and security arrangements to ensure that the work proceeded in safe conditions. This operation took place under the supervision of the Pasha, the head of the Al-Saknia urban district, Abdelhamid El-Ghiouane, and in the presence of the head of the sixteenth administrative annex, Fatima El-Salami, in addition to the city's Pasha, Benacher Araba, as well as the participation of elements of the auxiliary forces and the authority agents who supervised the securing of the workshop environment and the organization of the movement of citizens during the demolition process. Before the start of the work, the authorities were able to evacuate the houses and shops concerned after reaching an agreement with their owners, in the presence of the head of the municipal council, which provides for guaranteeing their rights and benefiting in the future from appropriate compensation or alternative spaces to practice their commercial activities. The operation also included the demolition of a number of shops and residences that occupied the site, under the supervision of the director of the local development company, Farid Tindawi, and with the participation of employees of the collective property department and the SRM company, as part of the preparation of the real estate container for the expected project. This operation falls within the program of re-qualifying the area allocated for the completion of the new bus station, which is expected to enhance the transportation infrastructure in the city and organize the movement of passengers, in accordance with the directives of the governor of Kenitra province, Abdelhamid El-Mezidi. The financial envelope of this project is estimated at about 117 million dirhams, with a completion period of about 20 months, with the aim of establishing a modern bus station that meets the requirements of urban and intercity transportation.
