On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, the prefect of Marrakech, held a meeting at the prefecture headquarters to discuss the situation of urban planning, investment, and infrastructure in a number of municipalities in the Marrakech prefecture, primarily the Tassoultante municipality. The meeting was attended by the head of the municipality, the general manager of the Urban Agency, a representative of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, the head of the Regional Council of Architects, and the head of the Regional Council of Notaries, in addition to a representative from study offices.
The meeting was dedicated to exchanging views on the challenges facing the urban field in the Tassoultante municipality, given the suspension of the issuance of a number of building permits during the past period. The interveners confirmed that this situation is primarily linked to the weak capacity of infrastructure and basic equipment to keep pace with population growth and the rapid urban expansion that the municipality is experiencing. The participants highlighted that the constraints raised relate specifically to water and electricity networks and liquid sanitation, in addition to the limitations of some public facilities related to basic services. This necessitates a review of urban planning in a way that ensures a balance between urban expansion and the availability of the necessary equipment. The Urban Agency has begun reviewing and updating the planning design for the Tassoultante municipality with the aim of adapting it to the spatial transformations that the region is experiencing, taking into account the requirements of urban planning and future needs in the field of infrastructure and public facilities. It was also decided to take a set of accompanying technical measures, including the preparation of classification decisions and the completion of a comprehensive topographic study of the region in order to provide the necessary technical data and propose appropriate planning solutions, especially regarding improving the connection to water, electricity, and liquid sanitation networks. These measures will be implemented according to a specific time schedule with the aim of creating the appropriate conditions to re-energize investment dynamics and enhance the attractiveness of the Tassoultante municipality within a framework that balances urban expansion and the provision of necessary infrastructure. It was agreed to establish specialized mixed committees that include the various concerned stakeholders, tasked with studying the technical files related to these projects, each according to their specialization, while monitoring the progress of works and coordinating efforts to ensure the implementation of the agreed-upon measures on the ground.
