The Moulouya Water Basin Agency continues to implement a number of initiatives aimed at developing alternative solutions for managing water resources, by valuing treated wastewater and reusing it in a range of areas. This is within the framework of efforts to promote the sustainable use of water and address the challenges of scarcity that many regions are experiencing.
The "Lema Dialna" website, affiliated with the Ministry of Equipment and Water, stated that the agency is currently working on a study concerning the reuse of treated wastewater in the cities of Bouarfa and Figuig, at a cost of approximately 0.633 million dirhams, with the progress of the work exceeding 40 percent. The same source mentioned that this study aims to evaluate the possibilities of valuing this water and determine ways to use it effectively in a number of areas. In the same context, another study is being prepared regarding the reuse of treated wastewater in both Jerada and Midelt, at a cost of approximately 0.629 million dirhams, with the envelopes for this project having been opened at the end of 2024, as part of the initial stages of launching the study. According to the same source, these projects fall within the Moulouya Water Basin Agency's direction towards promoting the use of non-conventional water resources, by supporting technical studies capable of reusing treated water in a safe and sustainable manner, which contributes to alleviating pressure on traditional water resources and enhancing water balance in the region.
