HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Baraka
A new controversy has erupted in the city of Agadir after the Federation of the Union of Civil Society Associations of the Tiliila and Adrar neighborhoods sent a letter to the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and the governor of the Agadir Ida Outanane prefecture, demanding urgent intervention against the backdrop of what it described as an attempt to change the original purpose of a plot of land allocated for the construction of a mosque within a residential project in the Adrar neighborhood, and convert it into a hall for parties, contrary to what is stated in the project's specifications.
The Federation explained that this plot was presented during the marketing of the apartments within the social housing program as a religious facility for the benefit of the residents under the name "Imam Ali Mosque," where the presence of the mosque was one of the basic facilities that promoted the residential project. However, according to the letter, the residents were recently surprised by the real estate developer's intention to change the nature of the plot and convert it into a hall for parties, claiming that there were difficulties related to obtaining a permit to build the mosque. Civil society activists demanded that the authorities open an investigation into the matter to ensure the extent to which the original designs of the project and the specifications were respected, and to work to preserve the designated character of the plot as a space for building a mosque that serves the residents of the neighborhood, while taking the necessary legal and administrative measures to ensure respect for the declared obligations and protect the rights of residents related to social facilities within the residential project.
