Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that the displaced in Lebanon due to clashes with Hezbollah will not be able to return to their homes before ensuring the security of northern Israel bordering Lebanon.
Katz's statements came during a meeting he held with a number of senior military leaders, amid the ongoing security tension in the border area. According to a statement issued by the Israeli Defense Minister's office, Katz affirmed that hundreds of thousands of Shiite residents in southern Lebanon, who were forced to leave their homes in the south and some areas of Beirut as a result of the military escalation, will not return to their areas south of the Litani River before ensuring the safety of the residents of northern Israel. These statements come in the context of the ongoing escalation between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where repeated clashes have led to the displacement of a large number of residents from both sides, amid fears of the scope of the confrontation expanding in the region.
