HIBAPRESS – E. Al-Samlali
Moroccan actress Sofia Benkirane revealed in a special statement to the "HIBAPRESS" newspaper details of her participation in the current Ramadan race through the series "Al-Barrani", where she embodies the character of "Maryam", a woman living a complex romantic relationship with a married man.
Benkirane explained that what attracted her to the role was the deep psychological conflict that the character lives, as she is a woman who is honest with her feelings, but she is forced to hide her jealousy and pain behind a mask of coldness and intelligence to maintain her interest in the relationship. She affirmed that Maryam is not just an evil or victimized character, but a person full of contradictions that reflects reality, which posed a great artistic challenge for her to present the performance sincerely to the viewers. Regarding the work behind the scenes, Sofia Benkirane expressed her happiness with the work, and described the filming atmosphere as "family" that combines seriousness and fun, and about her work with producer Khalid Al-Naqri, starting with the series "The Fetus" and her upcoming work "My Choice", in which she will embody the character of "Seham". She added that acting and theater workshops still represent her source of strength and presence, and that she has become more inclined to complex roles that give her more room to express her artistic energies. In conclusion, she revealed her desire to explore completely different roles in the future, such as the character of the "Bedouin woman", in an effort to face new creative challenges and get out of her usual roles.
