HIBAPRESS
After the controversy and accusations of spreading sedition among Muslims in France, the Great Mosque of Paris officially announced on Wednesday evening that the first day of Eid al-Fitr will be Friday, March 20, 2026, thus agreeing with the announcement of the French Council of the Muslim Religion, which had set the same date based on astronomical calculations.
This announcement comes after previous disputes between the two bodies regarding the beginning of Ramadan, which at the time sparked a wave of criticism and tensions among Muslims in France. This time, the Paris mosque relied on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent during the night of doubt, to issue an announcement that agreed with the official council and put an end to the disagreements that caused controversy. The Great Mosque of Paris, which is run by Algeria, had previously announced a different opinion from the French Council of the Muslim Religion regarding Zakat al-Fitr, where it said that the value is 7 euros, while the second body said that the value this year is set at 9 euros. The positions of the Great Mosque of Paris, which are contrary to the official body representing Muslims in France, have left a wide controversy that has led a large segment of religious people to accuse it of spreading division and sedition among the members of the same religion.
