HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The medical training system in the city of Fez is experiencing escalating controversy, in light of what has been described as a worrying situation faced by dental students, especially at the level of clinical training, which is a basic pillar in their academic and professional path.
Sources from within the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry in Fez revealed that the promises made regarding providing a suitable space for practical training inside the Omar Al-Idrisi Hospital were not translated on the ground, which created a state of frustration among the students who rely on this facility to acquire the necessary clinical skills.
According to the available data, the recent field inspection of the site designated for training revealed clear structural imbalances, including the dilapidation of the infrastructure, the presence of old and unusable equipment, and a limited capacity that does not live up to the size of the demand, as the actual capacity does not exceed a small number of treatment chairs compared to the number of registered students.
This situation, according to observers, poses a real problem regarding the quality of training, as it is feared that the lack of clinical training will lead to the graduation of groups of doctors without possessing sufficient practical experience, which may reflect in the future on the level of health services and patient safety.
In light of these indicators, voices are rising demanding urgent intervention by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, along with the relevant health authorities, in order to address the situation, and accelerate the pace of repair and rehabilitation of the spaces allocated for training, in a way that guarantees an integrated training that meets the required professional standards.
The bet today remains on activating the commitments of the concerned authorities, and transforming promises into tangible projects, in order to preserve the quality of medical training, and to ensure the future of the health system in the country.
