HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Al-Harowali
The recent rainfall in the Al-Mwarid community, belonging to the province of Essaouira, exposed a situation described by residents as "catastrophic." A newly constructed road, intended to break isolation, turned into muddy tracks where citizens' cars got stuck, greatly hindering movement and exacerbating isolation.
Local sources confirmed that the road did not withstand the first rains, raising questions about the quality of the work and adherence to construction standards. Affected individuals stated that daily travel became difficult, especially for patients and students. The residents pointed the finger at potential fraud in the project's implementation, demanding an investigation by the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Interior and the Supreme Audit Council to ascertain the reality of the flaws and determine responsibilities. A group of municipal councilors had previously submitted a complaint to the Minister of Interior, accusing a councilor of changing the road's route. According to the complaint, the project was diverted from a route that would have served students by connecting them to the primary school to a road leading directly to the concerned person's house. It added that this change forced a number of students to cover a distance of up to 4 kilometers via a rough and dangerous road, which the residents considered a clear blow to the public interest and a prioritizing of narrow personal interests.
