QatarEnergy announced on Tuesday, March 24, a state of force majeure in some affected long-term liquefied natural gas supply contracts, which include customers in Italy, Belgium, South Korea, and China.
The company clarified in a statement, the contents of which were reported by local media, that the company's center in Ras Laffan (north) was subjected to missile attacks on March 18 and 19, resulting in significant damage that affected the operational processes. The company confirmed that it continues to assess the full impact of the recent events, including identifying the extent of the damage and the time required to repair the damaged facilities, in preparation for restoring operational capacity. This development is expected to affect the supply of liquefied natural gas in global markets, especially as these contracts are associated with long-term supply to a number of industrial countries.
