A joint security operation between national security and customs officers at the Al-Guerguerat border crossing south of the city of Dakhla, on Thursday evening, March 26, resulted in foiling an attempt to smuggle drugs internationally and seizing 20 kilograms of cocaine.
The border control operation and inspection procedures enabled the seizure of drug shipments carefully hidden in specially prepared cavities in the floor of a trailer truck for international goods transport, bearing foreign license plates, which was coming from a sub-Saharan African country, in addition to the arrest of its Moroccan driver, aged 64.
A preliminary investigation has been opened into this case under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, to uncover all its circumstances and details, as well as to identify the identities of the other people involved in it, as well as to monitor the extensions of these criminal acts both within Morocco and at the regional and international levels.
This joint operation falls within the framework of the intensive and continuous efforts exerted by various security services at the Al-Guerguerat border crossing, to combat the international smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances, and to monitor and combat all forms of transnational crime.
