HIBAPRESS – Fikri Ouldali
In the framework of a joint security coordination between Morocco and Spain, elements of the Spanish Civil Guard, in close cooperation with the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie and under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Al Hoceima, have been able to identify the individuals of a criminal network active in smuggling irregular migrants through maritime routes towards the southern coasts of Spain.
According to Spanish media reports, the opening of this investigation came after a tragic incident that shook the Castil de Ferro region, specifically at the Cambrils beach, in the early hours of March 15th, where 17 Moroccan migrants, including minors, were intercepted after they were forced to swim to shore after the boat that was transporting them abandoned them at sea. This tragic incident resulted in the drowning of six people, a fact that brought to the forefront the serious risks associated with the phenomenon of irregular migration, as well as the dangerous role played by smuggling networks in endangering the lives of migrants.
