The competent administrative authority has issued a decision to strip a number of members of the Meknes municipal council of their duties, who belong to the Liberal Party, with the announcement of their replacement by other members in accordance with the legal provisions in force.
This decision, which carries the number 01 dated March 31, 2026, comes within the framework of implementing the regulatory texts framing the work of local communities, especially those related to the conditions of membership within elected councils and cases of stripping from them. According to the data contained in the decision, municipal councilors belonging to the council were stripped of their positions, after cases were proven that require the activation of the stripping procedure, as stipulated by the relevant laws. In contrast, the vacant seats were filled with new members belonging to the same electoral lists, in respect of the principle of continuity of the public utility and ensuring the normal functioning of the elected institution. The decision also identified the names of the members who will occupy these seats, based on their order in the electoral lists during the election of September 8, 2021, as they were summoned to replace the stripped councilors, in accordance with the approved legal procedures. The document affirmed that the membership of those concerned begins from the date of receipt of the decision, to end with the end of the current electoral term of the council. This measure comes in the context of the keenness to apply the law and enhance the principles of good governance and link responsibility to accountability within elected institutions, in a way that ensures respect for the legal and ethical controls framing local political work. It is expected that this decision will be reflected in the composition of the Meknes municipal council, especially at the level of internal balances, pending what the next stage of political and administrative interactions within the council will result in.
