The Water Basin Agency of Bouregreg and Chaouia organized the twelfth edition of "Water Divisions Week," a step aimed at establishing a culture of conserving water resources and raising awareness of the importance of rationalizing water consumption, by encouraging responsible behaviors that reduce waste, coinciding with the celebration of World Water Day.
This event falls within a national context characterized by comprehensive mobilization to address the challenges of water stress, in harmony with the high royal directives.
In implementation of the high royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, which His Majesty emphasized since the speech of the Parliament in October 2022, and within the framework of the continuous follow-up of the emergency program for the supply of drinking water and irrigation water 2020-2027, efforts continue to enhance awareness of the need to change behavior towards water and adopt rational management of this vital resource.
Despite the improvement in the dam reserves thanks to the recent rainfall, where the filling rate of the most important dams in the Bouregreg and Chaouia basin reached about 89.94% as of April 2, 2026, compared to 39.37% during the same period last year, "drought remains a structural phenomenon in Morocco," which makes rationalizing water use a strategic and indispensable choice.
In this context, and in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Equipment and Water regarding awareness and sensitization for water conservation, the Water Basin Agency of Bouregreg and Chaouia continues its awareness and sensitization plan on the necessity of changing behavior towards water resources by organizing the twelfth edition of "Water Divisions Week," which the agency has been accustomed to organizing in celebration of World Water Day in partnership with the regional directorates of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports in its area of jurisdiction, the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water, the regional directorates of the National Agency for Water and Forests, as well as civil society activities since 2014.
And the Al-Shahid Allal Al-Rahmani school group in the Ait Ouribel community in the province of Khémisset hosted this session during the period from April 6 to 10, 2026, for the benefit of 476 students, through educational activities, workshops and field visits aimed at enhancing their awareness of the importance of preserving this vital resource.
