The National Road No. 10 linking Ouarzazate and Kalaat Mgouna was shaken this week by a tragic traffic accident that claimed the lives of a couple, while their young daughter was injured with varying degrees of severity.
According to preliminary data, the car carrying the family veered off course before falling inside an open construction site belonging to a bridge construction project, which had been suspended for a long time, in circumstances that brought the issue of road safety and the security of construction sites back to the forefront. The accident caused great shock among users of this road axis, especially with the talk about the absence of traffic signs and protective barriers that would alert drivers, raising questions about the extent to which safety standards are respected in such projects. The injured girl was urgently transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment, while the bodies of the two victims were deposited in the morgue, in accordance with the instructions of the competent authorities. For its part, the concerned services have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances and details of this tragic accident, and to determine the potential responsibilities, amid demands to open a serious discussion about the situation of suspended construction sites that pose a real danger to road users.
