HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Supporters of the Polisario Front within Mauritania launched a media campaign described as "systematic" against Mali, following Bamako's announcement of withdrawing its recognition of the "Sahrawi Republic" unilaterally declared by the Front.
Media platforms and social media sites have been circulating in recent days an escalating discourse directed against Mali, attributed to media parties and activists within Mauritania who are seen as close to Polisario's theses, where this discourse linked the recent political developments and the new Malian position on the Moroccan Sahara file. In this context, the Malian activist Hamdi Juara said in a post published on his Facebook page, "The media campaign against Mali in Mauritania has doubled after the announcement of the withdrawal of recognition of the Polisario Front." He added that some Mauritanian personalities and media platforms "incited to launch a strike against Mali because of that," pointing out that "the Mauritanian army confirmed that the Malian army is moving within its borders and did not enter Mauritanian territory," in reference to denying any military incursion across the border. Juara explained that some border facts, including those related to the village of Katoul, "later confirmed that it is located within Malian territory," considering that part of the context of what he described as "media incitement," concluding his post by emphasizing that "Mali is ready for all possibilities."
