A senior Iranian official said on Saturday that Tehran's proposal, which US President Donald Trump has so far rejected, stipulates opening the Strait of Hormuz to navigation and ending the US naval blockade on Iran, while postponing talks on the Iranian nuclear program to a later stage.
The Iranian official explained that Tehran believes that the latest proposal to postpone the nuclear talks to a later stage represents an important shift aimed at facilitating the reaching of an agreement.
Under the proposal, the war will end with a guarantee that Israel and the United States will not attack the country again. Iran will open the strait, and the United States will lift its blockade.
Then, subsequent talks will be held on imposing restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions, with Iran demanding that Washington recognize its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, even if it agrees to suspend enrichment.
The official said, "Under this framework, negotiations on the more complex nuclear issue are postponed to the final stage to create a more suitable atmosphere."
