The German Foreign Ministry, in a new update to its travel guidelines, has warned of high security risks in Algeria, urging travelers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel outside major cities.
The German Foreign Ministry stated that the Algerian city of Blida witnessed two terrorist explosions on April 13th, recommending avoiding travel to this city, in addition to a number of areas of the country, especially the southern and eastern borders, due to the continuing risks associated with terrorism and kidnapping operations. In addition to terrorist risks, the German Foreign Ministry warned of the possibility of sudden protests inside Algerian cities despite the restrictions imposed, especially after Friday prayers, calling for avoiding demonstrations and large gatherings, due to the disturbances or clashes that may accompany them. It also pointed to the rise in crime rates in major cities such as Algiers, Oran and Constantine, especially street robberies and pickpocketing, which increase in crowded places and at night. On the health and environmental side, the ministry reminded that northern Algeria is located within an active seismic zone, with the risk of forest fires during the summer, calling for adherence to the instructions of the local authorities and following weather and security bulletins. The German Foreign Ministry confirmed that the tourism infrastructure outside the major cities is limited, and that some areas are subject to movement restrictions or require security escort, stressing the need to continuously monitor the security situation before and during travel.
