After the fires consumed farmlands of crops that represented the hope of simple farmers after years of drought here in the Chawiya region, and after they caused the deaths of two people, Khadija, the teacher, and her uncle, who died after complications in the intensive care unit, and after the losses that destroyed the farms and livestock in the fields of the Al-Hawazah community and its surroundings, the regional branch of the Party of Progress and Socialism in Settat issued a solidarity statement in which it offered condolences and condemned the absence of the intervention of the Canadair aircraft.
Mustafa Al-Rajali, a leader in the Book Party in Settat, published the text of the solidarity statement on his Facebook page, saying: "Following the unprecedented fires that engulfed vast agricultural areas in the region on the eve of Eid al-Adha, which affected many territorial communities, including the communities of Oulad Said, Al-Hawazah, Khmissat Chawiya, Sidi El-Aidi, J Oulad Sghir, Al-Halaf Ain Al-Durban, Sidi Boumehdi, and Al-Thawalth… leaving behind serious losses in the agricultural crop and the loss of many livestock, as well as leaving behind the death of the young woman "Kh.W" from the Al-Hawazah community in addition to many physical injuries….. In the face of this painful situation, the regional office of the party announces its absolute solidarity with all farmers and residents affected by this disaster in all the afflicted communities …… It extends its sincere condolences to all members of the family of the deceased young woman Kh, who was surrounded by fire in her final attempt to save the family's cows."
The Party of Progress and Socialism in Settat strongly condemned the lack of intervention by the Canadair aircraft in the firefighting operation, especially since the temperatures were very high in addition to the strong winds that complicated and made difficult the heroic intervention of the residents and other parties involved in combating the advancing flames.
The regional office of the Book Party in Settat demanded that the responsible authorities first conduct in-depth investigations into the causes of the outbreak of these fires at approximately the same time, and secondly, demand that the Ministry of Agriculture intervene immediately and urgently in order to provide assistance by conducting an accurate and comprehensive inventory of the losses, activating the principle of national solidarity and working to compensate the affected farmers to alleviate the effects of this disaster.
The party also announced that it would add its voice to the voice of the residents in demanding a new strategy that ensures rapid intervention to confront such devastating disasters, praising the spirit of solidarity between the components of the affected areas, who faced the deadly flames with bare hands, and we also commend the efforts made by the auxiliary forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Armed Forces, and all who attended, supported, followed, and transmitted the chapters of this disaster.
The regional office of the Book Party called on the responsible authorities to establish effective mechanisms for rapid interaction with distress calls, along with establishing proactive and vigilant measures to protect lives and property and prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future.
The Party of Progress and Socialism in the region recalled that the land of Chawiya has always been a major granary for grains and a major contributor to providing thousands of job opportunities and a major contributor to providing food security for the country (grains, meat, milk, leather, fodder, etc.), reiterating its principled stand alongside the residents of the affected communities, calling on all living, civil and elected forces to unite efforts and intensify coordination in order to support the affected and enable them to overcome the consequences of this disaster.
