HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Political analyst Samir Bennis considered that King Mohammed VI's reference to cooperation with Spain in the fight against irregular migration, during the opening speech of the parliamentary session, carries a clear and firm message regarding Morocco's position on this file.
Bennis said, in a post on his Facebook account, that Spain cannot demand effective combating of irregular migration while refraining from making the necessary legislative amendments to facilitate the return of Moroccan minors to their country, while respecting the applicable legal guarantees.
He added that the King stressed that cooperation between the two countries cannot be based on threats, pressure, and dictates, but rather should be based on mutual respect, free will, and the protection of common interests.
The political analyst explained that the royal reference to the political exploitation of the migration file targets, according to his reading, the right-wing and far-right parties in Spain, which he said are using the issue for electoral gains and to win over voters.
Bennis pointed out, in this context, to the leader of the Spanish People's Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, considering that he has made criticizing Morocco one of his political cards, and exploited the migration crisis in Ceuta to level accusations against Rabat and fuel tension in order to attract voters.
He warned that Morocco is not obliged to respond to every accusation or provocation, but it defines, through its positions, the red lines it does not accept in its relations with Spain, emphasizing that true cooperation is not based on pressure, blackmail, and political bargaining, but on trust, mutual respect, and common interests.
