Following the Royal Speech addressed to the members of parliament, questions are renewed regarding the ability of the parliamentarians who have gained the trust of voters in the North Fez and South Fez constituencies to translate their electoral commitments into practical initiatives and to seriously advocate for the social, economic, and developmental issues that concern the population of the scientific capital.
With the start of the legislative term, all eyes are on the representatives of the two constituencies, awaiting their performance within the legislative institution to reflect the extent of the responsibility entrusted to them through the ballot boxes, and for the Royal Speech to be an occasion to recall the roles of parliament in legislation, monitoring government work, and defending the legitimate interests of citizens.
The city of Fez faces a set of issues that require, according to the nature of each sector, responsible parliamentary advocacy and continuous follow-up. Among these are improving health services, enhancing the quality of education, expanding job opportunities, addressing urban transportation problems, and rehabilitating infrastructure. This also includes the issue of dilapidated houses in the old city, combating social vulnerability, and strengthening the city's economic and tourist attractiveness.
These issues raise a fundamental question about the nature of the presence that the parliamentarians of Fez will choose within the parliament: will it be limited to participation in official sessions and activities, or will it be translated into written and oral questions, legislative initiatives, meetings with government officials, and actual follow-up on issues that concern citizens?
The importance of regular communication with the population also emerges, not only during electoral periods but throughout the legislative term, allowing citizens to be informed about the achievements of their representatives, to know the nature of the issues they advocated for, the results achieved, and the constraints that prevented the resolution of some files.
This is not about making premature judgments on the performance of parliamentarians, but rather about placing representative responsibility against a clear standard of tangible work, transparency, and the ability to convey citizens' concerns to the relevant institutions, away from slogans and political maneuvering.
Will the next phase be an opportunity for the parliamentarians of North and South Fez to move from electoral promises to serious and continuous advocacy for the population's issues? Will they present a model in exercising representative responsibility based on frankness and accountability, away from ceremonial discourse, or will their achievements remain contingent on what actual practice within and outside parliament reveals?
The real stake for the population of Fez lies not in the abundance of statements or media appearances, but in the ability of their representatives to consistently keep the city's problems and its developmental priorities present in public and institutional discourse, thereby strengthening trust between the citizen and their representatives and reinforcing the principle of linking responsibility with accountability.
