HIBAPRESS – Khalil Fizzazi
The city of Dakhla is preparing to host the third edition of the international competition for tourist and sport fishing on the beach, "Surfcasting," from October 30 to November 1, 2026, under the slogan "Dakhla, Paradise of Fishermen," with the expected participation of about 160 competitors representing Morocco and a number of foreign countries.
This event is expected to witness the participation of sport fishermen from the United States of America, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Gibraltar, in an international event that strengthens Dakhla's position as a distinguished destination for practicing marine sports and sport fishing.
This competition is organized at the initiative of the International Union for Tourist and Sport Fishing, headed by Othman Aamar, in cooperation with the Moroccan Federation for Sport Fishing, after a series of regional, national, and international qualifiers and rankings that included a number of participating countries.
The importance of this event is not limited to the sporting and competitive aspect, but extends to include the promotion of the natural and tourist qualifications of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, and the introduction of its beaches and spaces that provide suitable conditions for practicing sport fishing and marine activities.
The competition is also expected to contribute to stimulating tourism and economic activity in the region by attracting participants and visitors, as well as strengthening communication and the exchange of experiences among sport fishing enthusiasts and professionals from various nationalities.
This edition carries additional importance due to its coincidence with the celebration of the Unity Day, on October 31, and the approaching commemoration of the Green March, which gives the event a national and tourist dimension that enhances the radiance of the city of Dakhla.
This event is expected to receive support from a number of institutions and partners, including the Governorate of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the Regional Council, the Regional Investment Center, the Regional Tourism Council, and the Provincial Tourism Council of Oued Eddahab, along with economic and tourism actors.
The organizing region is betting that this edition will be a new milestone in consolidating Dakhla's presence among international sport fishing destinations and enhancing its tourist appeal, in line with its natural qualifications and its position as a promising destination for sports tourism.
