HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
A sarcastic comment posted on "Facebook" by an official of a public institution, about two weeks before the announcement of the new government formation, sparked a debate about the limits of personal expression for public officials, after it mockingly addressed the possibility of Aziz Akhannouch being appointed a minister, hailing from the province of Zagora.
The comment included sarcastic allusions about Aziz Akhannouch's readiness to take on a ministerial portfolio and form his office, before he was announced as Minister of Employment and Social Dialogue in the government of Fatima Ezzahra Mansouri, which brought the post back to the forefront and placed its author in an embarrassing position.
The incident highlights the importance of maintaining sobriety in digital communication for public officials, especially when addressing political affairs, as freedom of expression remains linked to the necessity of considering the nature of institutional responsibility and avoiding situations that could be interpreted as belittling political actors or damaging the image of public institutions.
