The Kingdom of Morocco is participating in the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, which will be held between February 23 and March 31, 2026.
A statement from the Ministerial Delegation in charge of Human Rights stated that this participation will be marked by the presence of the Minister Delegate in charge of Human Rights, Mohamed El Habib Belkouch, within the Moroccan delegation, where he will deliver the Kingdom's speech in the general session dedicated to government delegations. The same source added that the Minister Delegate will also chair the high-level meeting on the International Network of National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up, for which the Kingdom of Morocco is the coordinator, on the topic of "Supporting the Implementation Plan and Future Stakes for the Network of National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up," which will be organized on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Palace of Nations. The high-level meeting is held in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the permanent missions to the Human Rights Council of Morocco, Brazil, Portugal, Paraguay, in addition to the Global Rights Group. This meeting will be devoted to highlighting the outcomes of the network's work, especially with regard to the adoption of its action plan for the period between 2026 and 2030 and the launch of its virtual platform, and renewing the call to join it to exchange and share experiences and enhance the role of mechanisms at the country level. The statement noted that the Minister Delegate will hold, on the sidelines of this prominent UN session, bilateral talks with a number of UN officials and international human rights figures, "which embodies the openness of the Ministerial Delegation to international human rights events and sharing Morocco's experience in the field of promoting human rights," and forms of cooperation with bodies and experts concerned with international stations that will be hosted by our country this year will also be studied.
