The Criminal Court of First Instance at the Court of Appeal in Kenitra, on Wednesday, sentenced a defendant involved in a serious assault targeting a truck driver in the industrial zone belonging to the free zone, and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
The court also obligated the convicted to pay civil compensation to the victim, set at 10 million centimes, as compensation for the serious damages caused by this assault on both the physical and moral levels. The details of the case date back to the end of last March, when a dispute over right-of-way between a bus driver transporting workers and a truck driver inside the industrial zone escalated into a violent confrontation unexpectedly. The incident was documented via a video clip that spread on social media platforms and sparked widespread reactions and great condemnation. During this assault, the victim was subjected to a strong blow with a solid tool to the head, which caused him serious fractures and severe injuries that required his urgent transfer to the hospital in critical condition, while the Public Prosecution followed up on the accused in custody on charges of attempted premeditated murder, before the court ruled on the case with the aforementioned sentence.
