The Tangier Corniche witnessed an assault that sparked a wide wave of controversy, after a group of private security guards working at a nightclub assaulted a young man in the public street, according to what a circulating video showed.
The video, which spread remarkably on social media platforms, shows a private security element knocking a young man to the ground, before a number of his colleagues intervened to surround him, in a scene that observers considered a "clear violation" of authority, especially since the incident took place outside the institution in which they work.
The incident ignited a wide discussion among citizens about the limits of the intervention of private security elements, and the extent of the legality of their practices outside their workplaces. In this context, a number of interactors expressed their rejection of what they described as "unjustified assault," stressing that resorting to violence in the public space remains unacceptable and warrants legal accountability.
In contrast, others considered that the circumstances of the incident were not completely clear, suggesting that the young man may have initiated contact or provocation, which may have prompted the security elements to intervene, especially if it was a matter of protecting themselves or the institution's property.
